Golden Circle Route

A glorious road trip through Alaska and the Yukon
There and back in several days

This multi-day route is a loop from Skagway that takes you north to Whitehorse in the Yukon, along the Alaska Highway to Haines Junction, and then down to Haines, Alaska on the coast of the Inside Passage, just 40 miles south of Skagway. You then return to Skagway on the Alaska ferry. (3 – 5 days one way)

As someone who’s driven scenic roads across the globe, this one should be rated a top ten drive in the world! You’ll travel over the beautiful White Pass along the route of the White Pass and Yukon Railway, drive past gorgeous lakes and rugged mountain peaks, explore historic Carcross, and see dazzling Emerald Lake on the way to Whitehorse where you can explore serene Miles Canyon and the numerous museums, shops and attractions of the Yukon’s capital city. From Whitehorse, you’ll drive along the famous Alaska Highway to Haines Junction, at the foot of the spectacular Wrangell-St. Elias Mountains and Kluane National Park. Turning south, the Haines Highway traverses the dramatic Chilkat Pass and drops down to sea level at Haines, Alaska on the south end of the Lynn Canal. Be sure to explore the Bald Eagle Preserve before taking a scenic ferry ride back to Skagway where you started.

You can take Road Trip Alaska’s Road to Emerald Lake audio tour or e-guidebook with you for the drive from Skagway to Emerald Lake, and then navigate using the famed Milepost guidebook or your favorite guidebook for the rest of your journey.

You will be entering the country of Canada and will need your passport or other form of ID.
